Using Meditation Techniques in Yoga

It may be taxing to talk about yoga in this century. Under the influence of globalization, the true meaning of yoga has been severely distorted. The whole philosophy of yoga has been reduced to a simpler concept to help people understand the concept better. The intricacies of this practice may not be easily understood by the western civilization. It is unwise to gain a shallow knowledge about a diverse topic and yet speaks about it from an expert’s viewpoint. Yoga is mainly perceived as a physical activity in the western part of the world. It is represented as a physical activity that is directed towards the achievement of inner balance and meditative states of mind.

It originates from the Hindu religion and it is actually a part of the Hindu philosophy. Any Indian would assure you that it is a spiritual experience that is manifested through a series of complicated physical practice. But the western world prefers to refer yoga as a mere physical practice. The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. Operating from the wrong paradigm, yoga became a form of sports in the western world. It also does a good job attracting those who wish to obtain inner peace and balance in the midst of the hectic modern lifestyle. Nevertheless many have been attracted to yoga as a form of practice to achieve inner peace and balance.

This perception is often strengthened by the various claims made by the so called yoga masters. Research shows that yoga has been highly misunderstood in the west and therefore plenty of fatal errors were detected in the way yoga is implemented. Closer observation reveals that the unique culture of each race has dramatically influenced the way yoga is practiced.

The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. For instance, learning meditation techniques is the crux of this philosophy but busy Americans do not possess the time to spend in a few hours of relative sessions every day. Westerners have different goals and priorities, and the insatiable desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth certainly has no place in the system of values among the Hindus.

Therefore, it is believed that the westerners will never reach the pinnacles of true wisdom dictated by the parameters of the Hindu religion. To gain maximum benefits from each meditation session, one needs to spare time and exercise tremendous patience in carrying out each essential part of the practice. Obviously, the people from the west have no endurance to fulfill such demands. Obsessed with the need to accumulate as much wealth as possible, therefore the thought of having to spend time in such sessions would be considered a mere waste of precious time.

Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want; there are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. There are famous people who embraced this practice and become fake gurus and still they have enough support from their followers. This crooked philosophy has been widely spread by its loyal followers.
